Terms of Service

These terms explain how Dead Star Tavern operates, how bookings and payments work, and the responsibilities of players and storytellers.

Last updated: February 8, 2026

Agreement

Scope

By using Dead Star Tavern, you agree to these Terms and any policies linked from the site, including the Privacy Policy .

These Terms cover use of the website, bookings, payments, messaging, and any other services offered through the platform. If a specific feature includes additional rules, those rules supplement this agreement.

Eligibility

You must be able to form a binding agreement in your region and comply with local consumer laws. Where your local laws provide mandatory protections, those protections apply.

Accounts & Roles

Account security

You are responsible for activity that happens through your account. Please keep your credentials secure and notify us through a Support Ticket if you suspect misuse.

  • Unverified or banned accounts may have limited access or removal from the service.
  • We may require verification steps to protect the community and payouts.

You can control reminder and summary emails in Account Notifications or by using the unsubscribe link included in those emails. Transactional emails related to bookings, payments, and security may still be sent.

Roles

Players and storytellers have different permissions and responsibilities. Storytellers must keep onboarding and payout settings current in Account Payments so sessions can be listed and paid out properly.

Bookings & Payments

Pricing & fees

For paid campaigns, the minimum fee per player is $5.00. Booking fees are displayed at checkout and included in the total so you can review the full cost before confirming.

For free-of-charge events, we do not ask for, store, or collect credit card details.

You should never be asked to verify payment details outside of Dead Star Tavern. If a player or storyteller asks you to confirm card details before a session, please file a Support Ticket or report the storyteller from their profile.

Payment timing

Payments are processed through Stripe and are captured at the scheduled session start time. You may withdraw from an individual session or leave a campaign up to 10 minutes before the session begins. Saved payment methods (if you opt in) are stored securely with Stripe (not on Dead Star Tavern servers).

  • Receipts and booking confirmations are sent to the email tied to your account.

Storyteller payouts

Storytellers are paid through Stripe. Funds appear on the platform immediately; storytellers are responsible for transferring funds from Stripe to their bank accounts and for any currency conversion fees that may apply.

The time it takes for funds to reach a GM’s bank account via Stripe varies by location and account history:

  • U.S.-based accounts: 2–3 business days.
  • International accounts: 7–11 business days.
  • First payout: May take 5–7 business days regardless of location.

GMs must ensure their game status is set from Pending to Active to trigger automated player charges.

Cancellations & refunds

Games are charged at the session start time. Booking fees are non-refundable. Refunds for no-shows or other issues are at the storyteller’s discretion and follow the storyteller’s posted policy. If you believe a decision was unfair, you can open a Support Ticket and we will attempt to mediate between the player and storyteller.

Storyteller Responsibilities

Session delivery

Storytellers are responsible for hosting sessions as described and communicating changes with players in a timely manner. If a session must be rescheduled or canceled, storytellers should notify players promptly and follow the posted cancellation policy.

Safety & Session Zero

Session Zero templates are a required step for publishing a campaign on Dead Star Tavern. They let storytellers ask pre-joining questions about themes, content boundaries, and comfort levels before a session ever begins.

Each template is made up of open-ended questions that players answer privately when requesting to join a game. Use them to confirm players are comfortable with the material you plan to explore, and to invite them to share any lines, veils, or content they prefer to avoid.

Storytellers can preview what players will see, reuse templates across campaigns, or update questions at any time to keep safety expectations clear.

User Content & Conduct

Content ownership

You retain rights to your content, but grant Dead Star Tavern a limited license to display it for platform operations, such as showing your profile, listings, and session details to other members.

This includes World Builder documents, uploaded assets, session descriptions, and messages you choose to post or share.

Acceptable use

We want the platform to be safe and welcoming. Use of the service must comply with these rules:

  • No harassment, hate speech, fraud, or abuse.
  • No unauthorized copying or infringement of intellectual property.
  • Report issues through a Support Ticket.

Disputes, Termination & Liability

Disputes

Start with a Support Ticket so we can attempt to resolve issues quickly. Payment disputes may involve Stripe processes or external chargeback workflows.

Account termination

We may suspend or terminate accounts for violations, security risk, or repeated abuse. If possible, we will provide notice and a path to appeal or remediate.

Liability limits

To the extent permitted by law, Dead Star Tavern is not liable for indirect losses arising from use of the platform. This does not limit any rights that cannot be waived by local law.

Changes & Contact

Updates

We may update these Terms to reflect new features or legal requirements. Material changes are communicated through the site or email, and the effective date above will be updated.

Contact

Questions about these Terms can be sent through a Support Ticket. We will respond as soon as we can.
